| At this point, no one has any legitimate expectations of what a painting should look like. This might mean the stable predictable warmth of a Wyeth or the quirky lyricism of a Miro. There are no rules. from Kafka..... "If we were on the right road, having to leave it would mean endless despair. But we are on a road that only leads to a second one, and then to a third one, and so forth, and the real highway will not be sighted for a long time - perhaps never - and we drift in doubt, but also in inconceivably beautiful diversity; so the accomplishment of hopes remains an always unexpected miracle, but in compensation, the miracle remains forever possible." At its best, the focus is not on each painting, but on being a better painter. The paintings are only the residue, the results of this search. So as I sit in front of a canvas, I search for that something. That which will satisfy the urge, the quiet yet primal need to make something. Familiar images - birds, fields, figures - rise up from the past and step into the future, claiming an existence for themselves. Each the habitant of some other place laced with sentiment, vigor, and emotional debris. But somehow more than that, a progression from those materials. The works included represent this search. Pieces reflecting an interest in natural forms. Pieces that reflect the power of such forms as icons, as psychological keys and organisms.
